To end the Final Empire and restore freedom, Vin killed the Lord Ruler. But as a result, the Deepness--the lethal form of the ubiquitous mists--is back, along with increasingly heavy ashfalls and ever more powerful earthquakes. Humanity appears to be doomed unless Emperor Elend Venture can find clues left behind by the Lord Ruler that will allow him to save the world.

Too long for a hate read.

The transcendence at the end of this book wasn't from the ending, but because of the ending. A bloated mess that can only be published when well into a series - it would never pass muster as a first book. Tedious. After a good first book, and a middling second, this is a mess. Took me almost two months to finish because I was bored by it - too much repetition of lore from the first two, too many unnecessary side quests, too much inner dialogue from characters that aren't interesting or pushing the plot forward. Do not recommend.

Impressive character work

Loved this book, as well as the other two in the trilogy. Fascinating character work, almost Dostoyevsky-like at times. The world doesn't really feel alive, although this is compensated by the astonishingly-realistic characters. 2021/07/28
